CITYnvest opening the Energy Efficiency Finance Market Place

How can your city get started to find innovative ways to finance energy efficiency in buildings? CITYnvest presented pieces of the puzzle towards the answer.  On 18 January 2017, CITYnvest opened the parallel sessions of the Market Place for Energy Efficiency on innovative financing, capacity-building and awareness raising. You can download the presentation here. The room was more than full to talk about innovative financing models to invest in energy efficiency in buildings – a necessity for many cities across Europe.

According to Elise Steyaert from Climate Alliance, “Local governments face barriers to develop viable business models for energy efficiency, which they cannot tackle on their own”. CITYnvest is aware of this, and helps local governments with appropriate guidance tools to deploy their own financing models for energy efficiency renovations in buildings.  During the event, the speakers laid out what CITYnvest has to offer for local governments willing to get started. Having acquired solid experience through the analysis of a wide panel of 26 different financing models, CITYnvest is the only player to provide top of the range guidance material and capacity building for launching wide-scale renovation programs both operationally and financially. As explained during the session, CITYnvest helps to introduce innovative financing models for energy efficiency in three pilot regions: Liège (Belgium), Rhodope (Bulgaria) and Murcia (Spain). Ivanka Pandelieva, from Sofia Energy Center (SEC), explained how “the CITYnvest project is a real game-changer in Rhodope (Bulgaria) – it stimulated the collaboration between 6 municipalities to launch a one-stop-shop for energy efficiency investments, which will result in boosting the local economy and job creation.”
CITYnvest is also supporting the pilot region of Murcia (Spain), and as Rafal Ataz Gomez from InfoMurcia stated, “CITYnvest helps to speed up the process of the market-uptake in our pilot regions”.

Jean-François Marchand from Energinvest presented the various guidance tools and the comparison report of CITYnvest.
